Our awareness education and advice extends beyond the arena of our immediate service
users and their support networks into other areas of the community. This includes
working within correctional facilities and the prison system to help emphasis the
importance of brain injury awareness within their work. The advice is also available
for access by any member of the public and as a result many individuals and families
contact us for information. The individuals range from families and friends of an
ABI survivor in need of more information on what their loved one is experiencing,
ABI survivors who have recovered from the event who realize they need specialist
support in order to manage issues in their life which have arisen as a result of
the ABI, through to interested members of the public who despite having no contact
with an ABI survivor realize the importance of being sensitive to their needs.
Our non-fee based services focus on raising brain injury awareness and providing
an information and signposting to relevant sources for help and support. This is
not just for the brain injury survivor but also for the families, friends and carers
who are supporting the individual through this part of their lives. Through raising
brain injury awareness and campaigning for effective measures to reduce the number
of ABI’s, such as cycle helmet guidelines, Headway East Northants not only works
to support the Brain injury survivors within our community but also to help prevent
as many people experiencing an ABI in the future.
