What is our main purpose?
Our purpose is to help people in their recovery from head injuries or brain diseases
like tumours or meningitis. We aim to encourage a return to as normal and independent
a life as possible within the community, including a return to work where possible.
Generally individuals are within the age range of 18-65. This help can extend to
the friends and families who care for them from the initial stages through the whole
recovery process.
Headway East Northants aims:
To provide a specialist service for people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). An acquired
brain injury is damage to the brain acquired after birth. ABI usually affects cognitive,
physical, emotional, social or independent functioning and can result from traumatic
brain injury (most commonly RTAs, accidents, assaults, etc.) and non-traumatic brain
injury (i.e. stroke, brain tumour, infection, poisoning, hypoxia, substance abuse).
Headway also promotes an understanding of all aspects of brain injury and to provide
information, support and services to people with brain injury, their families and
carers.
